F I N I S H E D
The title says it all...I'm finally finished with my student teaching experience! Even though this week was hard for me and my students, I just reminded them that this is not a "goodbye" that I will still be teaching in their school system and they can come by my classroom anytime they wanted to. When I told them this, a sense of joy and comfort showed on their face and just by seeing that definitely made this weeks rating a 5. I am happy to say that I accepted a job offer in my school teaching 7th grade math. I am super excited to start this job next week and just see where God takes me throughout this career path that I have chosen!
This week was a little hectic, but all in all a great week. The first part of the week I was given the opportunity to teach the class that I am taking over next week. This allowed for me to get a feel for the students and get to learn them a little before I start on Monday. When doing this, it was a little challenging to involve differentiation and different collaboration activities since I do not know the students that well, but I am excited to get to know these students and pushing them to finishing out the year strong! At the end of the week, I was able to teach my assigned class for the final time. Although this was a really tough time on me and the students because I developed such a close relationship with them, it's safe to say that I was super proud of them seeing them achieve and accomplish so much from the beginning of the year until now. I was able to sit down and review where their MAP scores were at the very beginning of the year, and where they were during the time I was giving instruction and it just feels my heart with joy to see how much each individual student improved.
I exhibited Standard 1 this week, teachers demonstrate leadership. I was able to go into my new classroom at the beginning of this week and take leadership over it. I was able to communicate my vision that I have for my students and we were able to talk about the goals we wanted to set for our classroom as a whole.
I exhibited Standard 2 this week, providing a respectful environment. With this week being my final week of student teaching and me not being able to teach these students again made me realize how much I cared for each individual student. The way the students reacted on the last day of me teaching them not only hit me with many different emotions, but it also gave me peace knowing that I established that respectful environment and that nurturing relationship with each one of my students.
I exhibited Standard 3 this week, by aligning each of my lesson plans to the NCSCOS.
I exhibited Standard 4 this week, by integrating technology into my lessons. In my higher math course they are learning about systems of equations and how to find if the system has one solution, no solution, or infinite solutions. So we went through all the notes and once we got to the examples we would do one together and they would tell me whether it was one solution, no solution or infinite solutions and then we would check ourselves by graphing it on an interactive website called Desmos (https://www.desmos.com) this allowed for the students to not only see it on their paper but also get a visual to see on the Promethean Board.
I exhibited Standard 5 this week, because since it was my final week of students teaching I was able to take a step back and reflect on my student teaching experience as a whole and think about what I would change and what I wouldn't change, and just remember all the fun times that I had with my students.
Even though I am excited that this was my final week of student teaching, I am also sad that I am leaving the students that I have taught for the past 10 weeks. I am excited to see what God has in store for me at this job and can't wait to see where this career ultimately takes me!

Alanna, that is so awesome that you already have accepted a job! I know you’re thrilled to move on to your own classroom. It’s great you had the opportunity to finish strong with your assigned classroom and get a taste of your new classroom for next week. It definitely seems like you have set a growth mindset in your classroom by helping the set goals and stick to try to accomplish those goals. Best of luck next week as you begin your job, I know you’ll do great!! :)
ReplyDeleteAlanna,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you as you now have a new position that you will be starting very soon. That is amazing that you already have a job and I know you feel accomplished and relieved. What a great experience to step into your new classroom. I know you will miss your other students, but like you said, they can still come and visit you. I wish I could be at your portfolio presentation this week, but I know you will do great and I wish you the best of luck! So happy for you!
