NO MORE EDTPA
PRAISE THE LORD is all I can say when I read the title of this blog. I am so glad that this week is over and gone, that edTPA was the most stressful and tedious thing I ever had to deal with. But, since it is over and done with now that just means we are THAT much closer to graduation!!
I would rate this week a 2. It was very stressful, I was still recovering from being sick, I don't think my lesson plans were the greatest, and having to spend every spare moment I had on edTPA was exhausting. On the bright side though, I am enjoying everything there is about student teaching in my school and absolutely love my placement, I really can't complain!
I was able to exhibit Standard 1a, teachers lead in their classrooms. I am going into my 6th week of student teacher and my CE has been nothing short of totally supportive. She has totally entrusted me in taking over her classroom for these past 6 weeks and it is a very rewarding feeling to know that not only my CE but my school trusts me enough to be viewed as a leader that is capable of controlling a classroom and teaching them the materials that are needed to be taught.
I was able to exhibit Standard 2a, teachers provide an environment in which each child has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults. Since I have been the "head teacher" for the past 5 weeks, I have been able to develop that relationship with my students. I have gotten to know my student on not only a personal level but also an academic level and each one of them know that they can trust me. Sometimes I will step out of the classroom while classes are switching and I will come back to encouraging notes on my computer from my students and it is just the most rewarding thing to not only know that they appreciate you, but to know that they feel comfortable with me and my classroom.
I exhibited Standard 3a, teachers align their instruction with the NCSCOS. When I was writing my lesson plans for next week I aligned each one of them up with the NCSCOS.
I exhibited Standard 4f, teachers help students work in teams and develop leadership qualities. This week one of the lessons was about cross sectioning. To help the students visualize this skill more we did an activity involving Play-Doh. They had to make preselected 3D objects out of Play-Doh with their partner and determine what 2D shape they got when they made a parallel, perpendicular, and diagonal cross section. This allowed students to collaborate with their peers and come to an agreement on what they thought was the best answer.
I exhibited Standard 5 by reflecting on my lesson plans for this week. I was able to see things that didn't work like I planned and see things that worked perfectly. Being able to reflect on my practice helps me in determining what to do with my students in the future.
I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend, and just keep pushing forward. We are on the home stretch!!:)

This has been the most stressful week of my life!!! Like you, I am so thankful that edTPA is over and I feel like I can finally solely focus on planning my lessons! I'm glad that you are starting to feel better and it sounds like you are having such a positive experience in your classroom. Have a great week next week! It's guaranteed to be better than this week was!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I am so thankful edTPA is finished!! I bet you are just as relieved as I am! I don't know if I have every been so tired or so stressed. My brain was complete mush on Thursday night. I am so sorry you had a difficult week thought. Getting over sickness and trying to teach through that is super tough. But you got through and I hope next week is a lot better!! I bet your students enjoyed using Play-Doh as a manipulative. It always surprised me whenever my geometry teacher would include coloring in her lessons. It also helped me understand the content, too. It sounds like you are enjoying your placement and creating good lessons!! I'm sure you are doing an excellent job. And you are so right, we are on the home stretch! woohoo :)
ReplyDeleteI am so glad edTPA is over! Now we can really focus on student teaching and adding all the little parts to our portfolio (which is still a lot but not as near as stressful as edTPA). It sounds like you are doing great things in your placement. You are going to be a great teacher! We're almost there! Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteYEAH! edTPA ia over! Now - keep on applying the skills you used for edTPA in your classroom! Those ideas and strategies are not just for the portfolio - remember, it is all about good teaching and learning!
