I can see the light at the end of the tunnel

This week was definitely a week to remember. My students were great all week, I got my edTPA scores back and passed, and I am getting closer to completing my final weeks of student teaching. I was definitely living the life this week, and there’s only one week standing in between me and spring break, and I think that I am more ready for it than my students. I rate this week a 5 out of 5, it was a great week and everything went smoothly.

My long term goal for this coming week is to get everything in place and ready to present my portfolio. I have been working to get everything organized and turned in for my portfolio, but I am determined to get everything together this week. My short term goal is to start my lesson plans early that way I have everything organized for the week after spring break!

For Standard 1, I was able to show leadership in my grade level meeting. We met with two employees from our county office who came to talk to us about the different FAL’s (Formative Assessment Learning) that we have to implement in our classroom. My CE allowed me to explain to them the FAL that I had recently completed with my class. This allowed me to demonstrate leadership to not only my grade level but also the two women who were meeting with us from our county office. I was really excited that my CE entrusted me and believed in my enough to explain to them everything we did with the FAL.

For Standard 2, my classroom is always a safe and nurturing environment for my students. I treat each student as an individuals, and they always know that I am here to listen when they need it. They know that I will guide them to solve the different problems that they have and that I am always here to help them. I make sure that my classroom is always a safe and caring environment for all my classes.

For Standard 3, I always align each of my weekly lesson plans with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.

For Standard 4, I was able to collaborate with my grade level teachers who also teach math, and compare where we each are to each other. After we compared where we each were we were able to give each other helpful tips for teaching a lessons, handouts, and different technology tools that we can implement into our classes. I really enjoyed this because I was able to see what other teachers did in their classrooms and see what worked and what didn’t work for them.

For Standard 5, on Friday of this week I was able to sit down and look over all the notes I took for my classes, and all the feedback that my students gave me about the different things that they learned this week and it really helped me with my planning my future lesson plans.

Only 2 more weeks of student left and I can’t be more thrilled! I hope everyone finishes strong, and just keep pushing. There’s light at the end of the tunnel!!! Have a great weekend :)

  1. Alana,
Sounds like a great week! Thats awesome that your CE allowed you to take charge and share in a meeting with not only other teachers, but people from the county as well. I know you are doing great things in your placement. Have a great week, spring break is almost here!

  2. Alanna, I agree I think I'm more ready for spring break than my students are. SO happy to hear you passed edTPA, I know that was a HUGE relief! As we wrap up student teaching it's so important to remain organized and ready for our portfolio presentations. Best of luck on your last week before break!
