Almost finished!!

I can’t believe I’m going into week 7 already! Student teaching is definitely going by quickly and I am feeling both excited and nervous about what is going to happen when it’s all over! I would rate this week a 4 out of 5. This week was very rewarding, all my students understood what I was teaching and it showed through the test that they took at the end of the week.

My short term goal for this week is to get everything planned for next week. We had 2 work days this week and I was able to get everything planned and ready to go for next week. During 1 of those workdays all the middle school teachers in Rutherford County met at the Highschool and had a Professional development day. This was very beneficial to me to see how a professional development day worked and I was able to learn a lot about my school system.

My long term goal for this week is to finish collecting my data and get everything together to complete my portfolio.

I exhibited Standard 1, during the professional development day. I was able to show leadership by giving my input during the meetings and helping with decision making when it came to the new standards that they are going to implement next school year.

I exhibited Standard 2, by making every student aware that my classroom is a safe environment where they can be themselves. I create a respectful, inviting, and safe environment for students in my classroom. By doing this it allows me to create a relationship with each of my students.

I exhibited Standard 3, by aligning each of my lesson plans this week to the NCTCS.

I exhibited Standard 4, by allowing student to work together in groups and collaborate with their peers during certain parts of my lessons. I have learned that this definitely helps the students and helps them get a different viewpoint of the skills they are learning.

I exhibited Standard 5, by reflecting on my students work and adapting my lesson plans for the next day depending on the data I collected from my students.

I am excited to dive into Week 7 and see what all student teaching has left to offer. I hope everyone has a great week :)

  2. Alanna,
I too cannot believe that we will be going into our seventh full-time week of student teaching! I feel like once we hit the halfway point, time started going by more quicker. That is great that you got to have the professional development opportunity and collaborate with teachers in your school system. I am sure this was very beneficial and gave you new ideas and strategies to try in teaching. Also, I am very glad that your students are understanding what you are teaching. This is one of the best feelings as a teacher! Keep it up and I hope you have a great seventh week!
