First Full Week!!!!

Well, I can finally say it....I made it through my first FULL week of student teaching. Between the snow and all the holidays, I never thought we would ever go a full week of school. But, I can tell you one thing I am after this week and that is exhausted, between grading, getting lesson plans together, and getting prepared for each lesson before hand...I am so ready for the weekend.

Overall I would rate this week a 4, it was a great week altogether my lessons went smoothly and all of my students understood the content I was teaching but it was also a frustrating week with MAP Testing coming up and we are behind pacing so trying to do all of that has really been a hectic situation. On Monday I will be starting my first full week of teaching all 3 of my classes and I’m so ready to jump into the actual student teaching process.

For Standard 1, I was able to once again attend our weekly PLC meeting but this time, I was able to give my input and put in my thoughts about the assessments and strategies that we are doing. I was also able to talk to the other teachers about what worked and what didn’t during the activities that we shared, and I thought this was very beneficial for me to get input from the other teachers. For Standard 2, I was able to sit down and talk about how I can adapt my teaching to the different learning needs of my students. This was also very beneficial to me because one big thing I need to work on for my lesson plans is differentiation. For Standard 3, I really have to practice and put this into play this week. I had to go back and reteach myself what I was teaching my kids. This helped me get a deeper understanding of the content and I was able to deliver a more effective lesson. For Standard 4, I was able to get my lesson plans ready for my first full week teaching all 3 classes. This was definitely a struggle for me considering I didn’t realize how much work actually has to go into making each one. For Standard 5, I was able to sit down and reflect on how the week went today. This allowed me to see where I can improve and what steps I need to take to get to where I need to be.

For my portfolio, I am almost finished with my resumé, I have my portfolio website built with everything that needs to go in there labeled as a tab, I’m still tweaking my website, I have started my Context for learning, and I am working on Task 1.

I hope everyone has a restful weekend!!:)

  1. Alana,
Yay for a full week of school! It was a full week for teachers at my school, but not the students because we had a teacher workday this week. We'll try again next week! I am also starting my first full week of teaching next week. It's so exciting but nerve racking at the same time. However, I think we are ready. This is what we've been busting our butts for! Good luck next week and get some rest this weekend.

  2. Alanna, I enjoyed visiting your classroom this week. Thanks for a positive teacher for your students. Thank you for a great post-observation conversation and for taking feedback while maintaining a growth mindset. As you move into next week - your first FULL week of teaching (!), stay prepared and confident to facilitate engaging instruction! You can do this!

  3. Alanna,
It seems like you had a great week! It was so exciting to FINALLY see what a full week looks like! It definitely is a lot of hard work to plan for a full week of teaching but I know you are going to do great with it. It is also very helpful that you were able to get started on EdTPA. I know that will be very useful as the craziness of being full time starts to set in. I wish you all the luck next week as you begin full time!

  4. Alanna, It sounds like you had a great week! We still did not have a full week as we had two teacher work days so this coming week will be our first full week back. Planning and teaching definitely is a lot of hard work and can be exhausting. However, reflecting and talking with other teachers is such a valuable experience. Best of luck on your first week being full time!!
